Biography: Rachel (Scriven) Branson - Publishing Director

Publisher of the Kent Edition

Rachel Scriven started her publishing career in 1993, working for an International business to business publishing company. She then set up Haywood Publishing in 1998 and successfully launched two trade directories for the Housewares and Flooring Industries. Both titles were sold by 2004 and then worked for the company who purchased her Housewares directory until October 2005.

It was at this point that her career took a change in direction, with a passion for health and nutrition she briefly worked and studied at the College of Naturopathic Medicine where she gained an insight into the fascinating world of Complementary Therapies. Shortly afterwards she made the decision to launch Healing Within, offering weightloss and nutritional advice for both sports and general wellbeing. Using her publishing skills and knowledge she produced a monthly newsletter which was emailed nationally and posted in her local area. Due to it's success she developed the concept even further with the launch of ‘Wellbeing Magazine' in 2006. Rachel also organises wellbeing events for the general public and employers as part of their 'Wellbeing in the Workplace' campaign.

Crossroads Retreat
Thursday, July 1st, 2010
People have been going on retreats for thousands of years. It is a time when we step outside our ordinary lives to reflect on ourselves, our gifts, goals and dreams in life, our values and our relationships. A retreat can be taken for reasons related to spirituality, stress, health, lifestyle, or social or ecological concerns and can either be a time of solitude or a community experience.
Water crystals
Saturday, May 1st, 2010
A few years ago I came across the work of Dr Emoto, a Japanese scientist, who has written several books on the subject of water. His work provides factual evidence by photographing frozen water crystals showing the effect that human, vibrational energy, thoughts, words, ideas and even music can affect or influence the molecular structure of water, the very same water that comprises over 70 % of our bodies.

I vividly remember my first Mind, Body Spirit Festival. I was 8 years old and my best friends mum took us. Not only was it my first exhibition, it was my first introduction to complementary therapy and spirituality which was very far removed from my own world.
Wild Nettles
Monday, March 1st, 2010
Spring is a wonderful time to look to nature for a natural way to cleanse and detox. A few months ago I embarked on a Natures Larder Medicine Chest course to learn about our native wild plants and discovered the delicious wild greens of nettle, dandelion and burdock.
Liver
Monday, March 1st, 2010
Second only to the brain in complexity, the liver is a powerful organ and one that should be routinely cared for.
Hen Weekend 1
Monday, March 1st, 2010
I don't know about you but the idea of a drunken weekend, ‘L' plates and silly hats, is not my idea of fun, even in my 20's I used to try and avoid Hen weekends, so when it came time to organise my own, I very nearly didn't have one. Then an email came into my Inbox labelled ‘Hen Weekend Retreat'.

A few years ago I came across a video interview of a woman who had been healed of Cancer without the use of medication or surgery. I remembered her shining eyes, radiant smile and soft voice as she spoke of emotions and repressed cell memories, how they remain stored in the body, holding you back emotionally and physically and the importance of learning forgiveness to allow the body to heal.

Healing Rhythms
Monday, March 1st, 2010

I am always amazed at the knowledge we have gained from the past, using simple herbal remedies to soothe sore throats, reduce inflammation and aid digestion, applying simple breathing techniques to reduce stress and symptoms such as asthma, and simply by being grateful we can change our perception and improve our overall happiness.

When someone is diagnosed with a life threatening illness an individual can deal with the news in different ways; submission to the inevitable, a philosophical view but handing over responsibility to the medical profession awaiting a cure or there are those who take responsibility for their outcome, often treading a difficult path of inner soul searching.
Food Inc
Friday, January 1st, 2010
Probably from the supermarket, but do you know the journey and process before it gets there? Do you know what the list of ingredients are and where they originate? Do you know how the crops are grown, how the animals are reared and how the employees are treated to get your dinner on the plate? Do you know if the food you are eating is nutritious or whether it contains as much nutrition as the plastic wrapper it came in? Do you just trust the information on the packaging as proof of origin?
Hooping

I don't know about you but I find that getting motivated to exercise can be quite a challenge. I love to feel fit and healthy and but working long hours, dark mornings and nights give me all the excuses under the sun not to get down the gym or go out for a run. I have been insearch of an exercise routine, something that excited and motivated me to get in shape.
Salt Therapy
Friday, January 1st, 2010
I'm sitting in a room, there is salt on the floor, walls and ceiling and it feels a bit like being at the beach on a winters day, except it isn't cold and we are wearing blue hair nets and covers over our shoes. A mother and father are playing with their daughter, pretending we are all in an igloo...
Temple Spa
Thursday, December 31st, 2009

We all rush around, hectic work schedules, household chores, so taking a few hours out of your day to reward yourself shouldn't really be a luxury, more of an opportunity to revive yourself ready for the next set of challenges.

Wellbeing has had much to celebrate over the last couple of months.

Not only was it our anniversary, celebrating three years in business, which given the current climate is something of an achievement, but Richard and I, managed to find time to organise our wedding which took place at Wadhurst Castle, East Sussex on the 26th September. With such busy schedules, it took some careful planning, but with the help and support of some wonderful local businesses we had the most amazing day.

Beauty Wisom

Our skin is our packaging, our outer covering, our protective film against the elements. Our skin knows when we are sick and hormonal, it glows with good health and rages against us for over indulging.

What is your spot telling you?

"Skin conditions are not as superficial as they may seem. All are caused by toxins and imbalanced energy inside your body," says Dr Li Bin,
